Be strong and courageous... for the Lord your God is with you
Change can be exciting, but very unsettling, as Regina Shands Stoltzfus illustrated as worship leader for the Council on Church and Media conference inCleveland.
A native of Cleveland herself,Reginarecalled the anxiety of moving from her hometown and congregation where she served as a pastor toElkhart,Indiana, and learning the styles of a new congregation and trying to forge new relationships. From worshipping in a predominantly African American congregation to one that is mostly Caucasian. Yet she was able to connect with a small group in her new congregation and develop those relationships. Regina's opening meditation focused on Joshua 1:1-9, whereJoshua found himself in similar circumstances as the one through whom God would lead the Israelites into the Promised Land after the death of Moses. The Lord said to Joshua in verse 5, ``As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you or forsake you.''
I have been going through my own world of change in the past year, after losing my position and working to forge a new career path. I find hope in these words: ``I will not fail you or forsake you.''
God promised Joshua continued presence with Israel on its journey. CCM is also on a journey. While there is uncertainty about whether some things about CCM may end, this is also a beginning. Where will this journey lead?
In 2006, CCM finds itself at a new beginning moving from old leadership to new, evaluating its mission, structures and function. May what results help us find new ways to help each other be strong and courageous in our work, for the Lord our God is with us.
