CCM publications receive honors

Three CCM member publications took home awards from the Associated Church Press in April 2005 for their work in 2004.

Mennonite Weekly Review won the Award of Excellence, the first-place award, in ACP's Best in Class category for national or international newspapers. Assistant editor Robert Rhodes won two Awards of Merit: for an editorial, “Distortion of Islam Obstacle to Peace,” and for a news story, “Support in an Hour of Need,” about assistance given by members of North Baltimore Mennonite Church to Peter and Nelly Block, Mennonites from Germany whose conjoined twin daughters were surgically separated at The Johns Hopkins Children's Center. John Longhurst won an Award of Excellence for his column, “North of the 49th.”

Mennonite Central Committee’s A Common Place won an Award of Excellence for Special Interest Magazine with “Eager for Education” by Marla Pierson Lester and for its Annual Report.    A Common Place also received an Award of Merit for Magazine Design (Entire Issue, 4-color) for its March issue designed by Julie Kauffman and Honorable Mention for In-Depth Coverage (Magazine) with a profile of Ethiopia by Rachel Miller Moreland, March.  

The Mennonite won an Award of Merit for Photography (Magazine) with “Bangladesh Job Program Marks 30th Anniversary,” photographer Matthew Lester, appearing November 16, and two Honorable Mentions for Theme Issue with “U.S. Presidential Election,” October 5, and for Most Personally Useful Article with “A Watch of Love” by Walter Friesen, March 2.
